The KTA1142 is a highly integrated CMOS IC containing PD controller and PWM regulator to form a single chip solution for IEEE® 802.3af/at and bt PoE applications.
This device provides all physical layer Powered Device (PD) functionality required by the IEEE® 802.3af-2003, IEEE® 802.3at-2009, IEEE® 802.3bt-2019 standards. This includes Class 8 (5 event) classification, Type 1-2 or 3-4 PSE detect indication, PD detection, under-voltage lockout (UVLO), and Hot-Swap FET integration.
The integrated DC/DC controller features adjustable slope compensation, load based DCM to CCM operation to maximize power conversion efficiency with dual complementary low-side drivers, programmable dead time, soft-start and soft-stop timing. The design architecture with optional frequency dithering will aid with improving radiated and conducted EMI performance. Additionally, the device provides safe, low-impedance ground discharge paths for superior reliability and circuit protection.
The controller is compatible with high efficiency Flyback or Forward topologies for system load levels up to 72 Watts. This makes the KTA1142 an ideal solution for Voice over IP (VoIP) Phones, and 5G/LTE Base Stations, Wireless LAN Access Point, Security Camera, and Notebook Computer applications.
The KTA1142 utilizes a space saving 4x4mm, 32-pin WQFN package to aid in compact printed circuit board designs while maximizing thermal performance. The device supports operation over a -40°C to 85°C ambient temperature range.
