Powerbank and MiFi

 

Powerbank and MiFi personal WiFi hotspot devices are battery powered, require a charging interface from an external power source, yet are portable have no display.  Input power ports need protection from external power sources.  To indicate device status, LED indicator lamps are used and require a processor control for LED color and brightness.  As with any battery powered portable device, local voltage regulation is need at the point of load for application circuits.

 

+ RGB LED Drivers  

 

Peripheral products by nature are compact and often simple or single function accessory devices that may not have LCD displays. To inform the user to power, function or battery status, RGB LEDs or multiple LEDs are used as indicator lamps.

 

  • RGB and single color LED drivers provide for simplified control of LED color and brightness in an ultra small footprint packages.
  • 3-channel RGB LED drivers permit custom color and brightness control.
  • 4-channel RGBW devices allow for driving a single color or white LED in addition to the RGB LED. Programming interface options include ExpressWire or I2C to ease integration with a wide variety of processors and operating systems.

+ Voltage Regulation  

 

Battery powered powerbank and mifi products have a wide range of internal voltage regulation requirements.

 

  • System power management ICs typically used to cover the needs of the application.
  • For low cost products that do not use a PMIC, situations where a needed voltage level is unavailable or for cases where regulation is needed at the point of load, a single output switching regulator can provide power conversion with high efficiency.
  • High efficiency voltage step-up or step-down DC/DC switching voltage regulators provide a needed voltage rail while conserving battery life and reducing thermal power dissipation.

+ Power Interface  

 

Powerbank and Mifi portable products are battery powered. To power operation and charge the battery, external power supplies such as USB ports, AC to DC power adaptors or automotive DC power sources are used.

 

  • These external power sources may not always be stable or trusted.
  • Powerbank, Mifi and similar products need input over-voltage, transient voltage and electro-static discharge protection for product reliability.
  • Power interface products provide over voltage, transient voltage and voltage surge protected load switches protect battery charge management and operating peripheral product circuit in the event the device is connected to a faulty power source.

 

Load switches provide system control for internal circuit power rail switching to control devices functions and reduce standby or shutdown state power consumption.

 

  • Integrated load switches can be controlled directly by a system processor eliminating the need for bias and level shift circuits associated with discrete MOSFET switches.
  • Load switches also provide slew rate limited turn on and shutdown mode reverse current blocking to aid in circuit design.
